Sign from Above - 2020
Fabricating a personalised vocabulary is a core trait of my practice, enabling me to contextualise my materials through veiled, oblique narratives.
In Sign from Above (2020), I plead to my fictionalised goddess for guidance, forgiveness and protection via a standard scrolling text LED sign, commonly used as low budget advertising for small businesses.
The professed title of dirty deity illustrates my practice in a succinct, humorous way as it addresses both spirituality and sexuality, satirically referencing archetypal pornographic titles.
Alike to a melodramatic diary entry, Sign from Above reveals the longing to unite the spirit and the erotic via mingled binaries. Inner turmoil is positioned as an essential precursor to the unearthing of inner catharsis and recalibration; sanctioned through the act of self-confession.
